Cinco de Mayo Cocktails (Recipes)

Happy Cinco de Mayo! NoDef has already shared the best spots around New Orleans to celebrate with live music, tacos, and of course a drink or two. For the more introverted celebrants, there are still plenty of ways to get down from the comfort of your own kitchen. NoDef's pals at the Mexican-born William Grant & Sons offered up a few suggestions for cocktails featuring traditional spirits like tequila, mezcal, and Ancho Reyes. ¡Salud!

Eco-Conscious Cocktails (Recipes)

With Earth Day just hours away, everyone should raise a glass in toast to Mother Gaia! NoDef's pals at Bombay Sapphire offered up a few suggestions for environmentally-minded libations ahead of Saturday's celebration. The team called upon some of the top cocktail creators from across the country to share zero-waste cocktails to sip the sustainability lifestyle.

Libation Nation

Recipes for National Cocktail Day

Like most New Orleanians, the NoDef team enjoys a good cocktail ... or two, or three. The great thing about living in the Big Easy is that we really don't need any excuses to drink, but that doesn't stop us from finding new reasons all the same. (Cue today's Bourbon Festival and this month's absinthe celebration, for instance.) This Friday (3.24) is National Cocktail Day, the holiest of days for all fans of being spirited away. Today, mix up all-star cocktails with these recipes culled from NoDef interviews with NOLA's finest bartenders from years past.

Master of the Margarita (Recipes)

Today (2.22) is National Margarita Day! If you are in the minority that needs an excuse to savor the tasty lime and agave cocktail, here is your rationale. NoDef reached out to Braden LaGrone of Cure (4905 Freret Street) for some pointers.

Carnival Cocktails (Recipes)

It’s Carnival time and everybody’s having drinks! If ever there was a time to have one too many on a work night, it’s during Mardi Gras season. NoDef’s pals at drizly.com offered up a few suggestions for libations to stay, er, hydrated along the parade route or at your party of choice.

Totally Toddied

The weather outside is not quite frightful, but that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy a hot, holiday drink or two… or a dozen. On Thursday (12.17), 52 of NOLA’s top bartenders will serve up thousands of sample seasonal cocktails at the tenth annual Tales of the Toddy. NoDef spoke with USBG New Orleans President Mark Schettler to learn a bit about the backstory behind the bottles.

The Appeal of Repeal

Harry Craddock, Vintage Dancing, & a Quarter Classic Celebrated on Repeal Day

Today, December 5th, marks the 82nd anniversary of the 21st Amendment’s passage. Repeal Day celebrates Americans’ restored right to drink (legally). Needless to say, booze bashes are pretty popular in New Orleans. Across the French Quarter, local bars are looking back at history to celebrate the big day.

One Fly Mai Tai

Today is National Mai Tai Day. (Don't worry, there's time to drink one after the Saints game). The tiki classic is perfect for heat featuring funky rum, fresh juice, and just enough rich syrup. NoDef turned to our favorite publican Nick Detrich of Cane & Table (1133 Decatur St.) for a recipe.

Fry-Hards

Emeril Lagasse & Jason Klutts Offer Recipes for National Fried Chicken Day

Today (7.06) is National Fried Chicken Day! NoDef reached out to culinary standard bearer Emeril Lagasse and rising star Jason Klutts of Cane & Table for tips and recipes for the Southern classic. Emeril offered up an exciting riff on waffles and chicken. Klutts offered a traditional take on the dish. Click on through for the recipes.

Chilling Effects (Cocktail Recipes)

A few minutes in the sauna that is all of NOLA outdoors right now will confirm that summer has officially begun. The best way to beat the heat is lots of water, but a refreshing adult beverage is also pretty helpful. NoDef’s friends at Emeril’s were kind enough to share a few of their favorite cocktails for y’all to test out at home. Click on through for recipes.
