Council Grills Harrison on Sex Crimes

The New Orleans Police Department (NOPD) is spending a lot of time investigating homicides, but to many, including the City Council, it appears that his focus comes at the cost of victims of other crimes. In the wake of an audit released by the Office of Inspector General, that sentiment grew into an impassioned exchange at City Hall. The report revealed five detectives in the Special Victims Section (SVS) were barely filing any paperwork on sexual assault cases at all. About 840 (or 65 percent) of the 1290 cases the unit had been assigned between 2011-2013 were designated miscellaneous. Councilmember Susan Guidry led a meeting of the Criminal Justice Committee (12.18) to discuss how the NOPD plans to rectify their entire police culture and regain the public’s trust.

Suspects Sought in Marigny Rape

Police have released composite sketches and description of two suspects in a Marigny rape case. Authorities say that the two men sexually assaulted a woman inside a house on the 800 block of St. Ferdinand Street on November 28. NOPD believe that the men fled in a black, four door compact after the horrific incident.

Four Rapes Reported Over Weekend

Rape is not just a pressing issue in Virginia and television programs. Over the past weekend, four different sexual assaults were reported to the New Orleans Police Department (NOPD.) Due to the nature of the crime, details are sparse, but the information available is appalling.
