NOPD Releases Surveillance Footage of French Quarter Rape Suspect


The New Orleans Police Department (NOPD) Special Victims division released a surveillance video of an unknown male suspect in connection with a sexual assault in the French Quarter. As NoDef previously reported, the incident occurred during the early morning hours of April 16 on the 1400 block of Chartres Street. 


HBO Documentary Shines a Light on the Nation’s Troubling Trend of Untested Rape Kits


On Law and Order: SVU, detective Olivia Benson (played by Mariska Hargitay) is a member of an elite squad who has helped victims of sexual assault get justice from their attackers for nearly two decades. In the upcoming HBO documentary I Am Evidence, Hargitay explores the real life fight for police to examine the hundreds of thousands of untested rape kits across the country. The documentary's focus is especially relevant as April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month in the United States — and draws renewed attention to the state of affairs in Louisiana.

The New Orleans Police Department (NOPD) had a busy day on Thursday (11.17).  The Major Offense Log (MOL) reported seven Armed Robberies, a shooting, and a rape.

Violent crime shows no sign of abatement. The New Orleans Police Department (NOPD) responded to a double homicide, three rape cases, three muggings, a bloody home invasion, and domestic violence according to the Major Offense Log (MOL).

The recent spate of shootings paused in the last 24 hours but the crime did not according to the New Orleans Police Department (NOPD). Two rapes and a home invasion were reported in the Major Offense Log (MOL).

NOLA was plagued by two rapes, two shootings (one fatal), and a home invasion according to the Major Offense Log (MOL) for Monday (5.23) from the New Orleans Police Department (NOPD).


Overnight Crime Report: 7 Shot, 2 Fatally, 2 Unclassified Deaths, Rape, Mugging


The last 24 hours in NOLA were bloody. Two men died in shootings, another two expired from unknown causes, and three other people sustained non-fatal gunshot wounds according to the Major Offense Log (MOL). The New Orleans Police Department (NOPD) also reported a rape and a mugging.


Rapes Reported in Bywater, CBD


The high rate of sex crimes reported over the past year continued on Friday (5.20) according to the Major Offense Log (MOL). The New Orleans Police Department logged two additional rapes yesterday.

Crime spiked back up on Thursday (5.19) according to the New Orleans Police Department (NOPD). The Major Offense Log (MOL) included a fatal shooting, two rapes, an unclassified death, and three carjackings.
