(Wiener) Dog Days at the Track

Not a carnival person? Would you rather that your dog skip Barkus and instead focus on training for a big race. Well, if your dog is a wiener dog, you’re in luck. The Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots announced that wiener dog racing will return for a third year on March 5th.

Indy Go Go

Indie music and indie film have emerged as powerhouses in NOLA since the Federal Flood. Now, Indy Racing is trying to join the clique. Today (3.2), organizers of the inaugural 2015 Indy Grand Prix of Louisiana released a packed schedule of racing set for April 10-12.

Quarter Horses Want More Than a Fraction of the Purse

Over at the Fair Grounds, there is pandemonium with the ponies’ purses. A group of Louisiana quarter horse owners, trainers, and jockeys have filed a lawsuit demanding a bigger piece of the pie. However, one man’s gain is another man (or horse's) loss, and the litigation means that the prizes in thoroughbred races will be lessened.

Ostrich Races Return to Fairgrounds

An American quarter horse can reach speeds up to 55 miles per hour while its unlikely race partner, the ostrich can get about to about 30 miles per hour. New Orleanians can decide which one they prefer this Saturday at the seventh annual Summer Quarter Horse Meet and Exotic Animal Races.

Final Stretch: Wiener Dog Racing Back at Fair Grounds

Crowds filled the Fair Grounds for the exotic animal races, but the animals in tomorrow’s race are a little slower and a lot cuter than ostriches or zebras. The annual wiener dog races kick off Saturday, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m..

Racing Recap: Marchman Takes Woodchopper

The Fair Grounds' trio of top Thanksgiving weekend races haven’t given the photo finish camera much work. Saturday's Woodchopper Stakes capped off the run of dominating performances, as Martin Racing Stable's Marchman went the distance in the lead to win by 2 3/4 lengths.
