Common, Questlove Surprise Local Youth Musician (Video)

Jazz Fest season is a time in New Orleans when musicians of all different genres and backgrounds come together to celebrate the power of music. While the fest's Sunday festivities got off to a rainy start, an impromptu music jam took place on Frenchmen Street between a young street performer and some national superstars.

And so it begins … the 48th annual Jazz Fest starts at the Fair Grounds, but there is plenty more to do around town. Brass legends The Soul Rebels bring da funk to Frenchmen, while Questlove spins tunes at a midnight show at the House of Blues. Big Chief Monk Boudreaux teams up with his Golden Eagles and the funk rockers Flow Tribe, while Ben Harper and the Innocent Criminals take the Orpheum stage. On this day in 1997, the FBI raided former Governor Edwin Edwards’ home after EWE was charged with racketeering and corruption. Now, more to do this festive Friday.

Tonight, Ogden After Hours with Andrew Duhon, and the last Thursdays at Twilight with the Symphony Chorus of New Orleans. On this day in 1833, Captain Henry Shreve cleared the Red River in what is now Shreveport. Now, more to do this Thursday.
