Quarantine at MSY: Flight Held on Tarmac on Suspicion of Typhoid Fever

Updated 10:20 p.m.

A plane that took off in Miami carrying more than 100 passengers was quarantined on the tarmac for more than an hour after landing at at Louis Armstrong International Airport Monday evening when a passenger complained of an emergency medical issue during the flight, according to officials. The incident arose because of a comment that was made that lead to suspicion of a female passenger having typhoid fever, said John O'Connor of the Center for Disease Control. There is no clear diagnosis of the disease, O'Connor said. The female passenger was vomiting on the plane and experiencing nausea, said City Health Commissioner Dr. Karen DeSalvo.
