Nyx Moves the Sticks

Carnival season boasts its own lexicon with terms like “bead pigeon” and “deja krewe.” Perhaps the most popular (and ambiguous) phrase of this specialized rhetoric is the “super-krewe” designation. After breaking the 2K mark on membership, the Mystic Krewe of Nyxis offering some clarification and declaring themselves elevated to super-krewe status.

Quarter Horses Want More Than a Fraction of the Purse

Over at the Fair Grounds, there is pandemonium with the ponies’ purses. A group of Louisiana quarter horse owners, trainers, and jockeys have filed a lawsuit demanding a bigger piece of the pie. However, one man’s gain is another man (or horse's) loss, and the litigation means that the prizes in thoroughbred races will be lessened.
