Defender Picks

Black to the Future

The holidays are generally billed as a season of light, but Sports Illustrated picked today to run a piece about one of NOLA’s darker times—literally. The sports standard published one of the more in-depth looks at da Dome’s blackout during Super Bowl XLVII.

According to the company's outage map, eight customers are out in the area near the Superdome, and a red line is skirting the Black and Gold sanctuary. But power is on at the stadium, where the Saints' preseason opener will be played on Friday night. Instead, it's the Entergy building that is without power.

NOLA Tweets, Brass Booms Through Frenchmen Blackout

New Orleanians love a good acoustic set, and last night's Marigny blackout didn't prevent Frenchmen Street denizens from feeling the music. The storm took out electricity for a large swath (map below) in the middle of French Quarter Fest crowds. Patrons took to the twittosphere to tell the rest of the Crescent City that you don't need electricity to have a party.
