On this day in history, Lloyd Price’s “Personality” hit #1 on the R&B Chart (1959), swamp blues guitarist Leroy Washington passed away at age 34 (1966), and R&B singer Li’l Millet passed away at age 61 (1997). Escape dat heat: Buku Fest Adds More ActsThe debut edition of the Buku Music and Art Project got larger today as seven new acts were added to an already bustling lineup of international talent at the intersection of hip-hop and electronic music. The new artists slated for the March 17-18 Mardi Gras World fest include whiz kid DJs Porter Robinson, Gramatik and Figure and a DJ set by the leader of the infectious French band Yelle. In the hip-hop category, the fest added a set from N.O.'s own queen diva, Big Freedia and British-based, self-ascribed hip-hop supergroup The Rap Pack. Local rockers Gravity A are also on the lineup. |
