The Drifter

Dip Into New Orleans’ Hottest Pool Party

The Drifter Hotel is not an easy place to find if you don’t know what you’re looking for. Tucked away on a confusing portion of Tulane Avenue not far from the Courthouse, it’s very close to the Brown Derby gas station that used to be stomping grounds for patrons of New Orleans' seedy underbelly. The once desolate area is slowly morphing into an up-and-coming corridor. In the last six months, several of the dilapidated, flea-ridden, pimp-frequented hotels that locals have long been accustomed to driving quickly by on Tulane have been purchased by investors who plan to bring back a 70’s feel, under the guise of trendy boutique hotels that hope to lure the sort of young, hip, bohemian transplants who previously would have only found themselves on the Avenue to make a court date, if then.

Cover-Up: Clothes No Longer Optional at The Country Club

By Ashley Rouen

NOLA’s favorite (and only) clothing optional pool will require its patrons to wear proper swim attire. Carefree, nudie days and nights swimming at the Bywater’s Country Club are over after complaints from neighbors and a rape allegation. Though local customers have expressed their continued support of the venue via Facebook the new rules were effective Tuesday (10.21).

Treme Center Pool, Gym Closed for Summer

While most of the Crescent City's community pools opened for summer hours on Monday, 6th Ward swimmers will have to remain on land, for now. The Treme Center's pool and gym are closed for the summer as a result of ongoing construction issues. In the spring, mold was found on the pool ceiling and issues were found with the pool deck. Meanwhile, the gym floor was found to be uneven.
