Edible Evening Helps Students' Garden GrowWith the end of Lent in sight, many New Orleanians start salivating over the unhealthy food choices they’ll once again be able to enjoy. While these bad habits become almost second nature to adults, simple instruction can steer kids toward a healthier route. On Thursday, March 21, Edible Schoolyard New Orleans hosts its fourth annual fundraising event, Edible Evening: A Garden Party Under the Stars to benefit Edible Schoolyard programs. NoDef Nods: FoodNew Orleans Eating in 2012, and a Glimpse Ahead to 2013New Orleans' food scene continued its fast growth in 2012, with a mix of high profile openings and hallmarks of foodie culture that brought new geographic areas and even more national attention. In the New Year, more new openings will ensure that we'll never struggle to find a place to eat. Here's the best of 2012, and what to look for in 2013: Pizza Delicious Provides NPR a Slice of Facebook Ad LifeIn addition to knowing their way around a pie, Bywater's Michael Friedman and Greg Augarten have been picking up some other business know-how lately. The storefront that the duo behind Pizza Delicious are hoping to turn into a permanent restaurant has required some quick construction learning. And, as NPR points out, they've also had to navigate the unseemly waters of Facebook advertising. On today's Morning Edition, the Planet Money team spotlights the pizza duo's negligible success with Facebook advertising in front of the social media company's gargantuan IPO. Read the story here. Night Market Returns to St. Claude Ave. on Second SaturdayIt's that time of the month in downtown New Orleans. Second Saturday arrives again on St. Claude Ave this weekend. Slated for 6-10 p.m. just down the strip from the main cluster of galleries will once again be a Night Market. Located at 2709 St. Claude (next to St. Coffee near the corner of Port Street), the market will feature 30 vendors selling their wares, which in this case include arts, crafts and, since looking art makes the stomach grumble, more food. Bywater's Pizza Delicious Readying Move to Permanent HomeFor the many customers who have loaded them up with phone calls, Pizza Delicious has lived up to its name, creating a high demand for their product that is available only two nights a week for delivery only. They keep their menu and updates about their business on their blog, and they’ve become so popular that they’re looking to set up a permanent, sit-down restaurant at 617 Piety that will be open 6 days a week. 'One of Us'NOLA Food Community Reaches Out in Wake of Nathaniel Zimet ShootingFor Chef Nathaniel Zimet, a horrible shooting ordeal over the weekend was quickly followed by an outpouring of support. NoDef collected details on the upcoming benefits, and other outlets through which people are helping Zimet recover. Battle of the underground Pizza Joints! We're all real impressed with Pete's Easy down by St Claude and Feliciana, but a new contender has entered the battle of the underground pizza places of the Bywater. Pizza Delicious has been leaving fliers around and, in a bold nod to thechnology, the future and our eventual cyborg bodies, has a blog and a Facebook page. Now we don't know if their pants are tight enough to take on Pete's (and they operate on different nights anyway), but as the the rise of Standard Oil taught us, competition can only benefit the consumer. |
