Oulet Mall Eyed for Riverwalk Marketplace

Down by the River, a big expansion and new shopping is slated to arrive next year. The Howard Hughes Corporation, which was founded by the eccentric billionaire of the same name, owns the CBD's Riverwalk Marketplace currently, and is planning to invest $70 million in the shopping center, turning the property into an "Outlet Collection." A news release says the renovations will feature "top national retailers," some of which have not been in New Orleans before. No specific stores were released.

Six Flags to Outlet Mall Plan Aired Publicly Tonight

by Mary-Devon Dupuy

Residents of New Orleans East have a chance to rid themselves of the eyesore that is the flood-ravaged Six Flags theme park, and tonight they get a chance to weigh in on what will replace it. Visible from I-510, the sign at the entrance of this eerie playground still reads, “Closed for Storm,” over six years after the disaster. The musty smell of floodwaters still lingers within the park, and graffiti artists have tagged cryptic messages over all the rides and attractions, adding to the post-apocalyptic feel of the deserted wasteland.
