School Bus Crashes on Claiborne


A school bus full of students crashed at Orleans Ave. and Claiborne Ave. at 7am this morning. Children poured into the street as medical teams and police looked into the accident. No serious injuries have been reported, according to Officer Frank Robertson.


Massenburg's Mission: AmeriCorps Member Murdered While Serving in New Orleans


One of the city's latest homicides claimed the life of a man who was sent to New Orleans to help the city. Joseph Massenburg, 18, a member of AmeriCorps National Civillian Community Corps, was shot multiple times Monday night in the Leonidas neighborhood. According to police, the Matteson, Illinois, native was walking in the street near the corner of Eagle and Birch Sts. at about 11 p.m. Monday night when he was shot. Authorities found him wounded on the sidewalk, and he was rushed to the hospital, where he later died.


Suspects Named in Treme Burglary


New Orleans police are searching for two people involved in a Feb. 10 burglary in Treme. Alicia January, 37, and Terrance Smothers, 35, allegedly broke into a home in the 1300 block of Governor Nicholls Street, according to a police news release. The pair then stole multiple items, including an Apple laptop and an iPhone.


Crime Bits: CBD Rape, Shootings in 7th, 9th Wards


Police are investigating a quartet of violent crimes that took place in New Orleans on Tuesday. A fight started with a weight and ended with a knife in the 7th Ward. Later, men were shot in the 7th and 9th wards. NOPD is also investigating the rape of a 15-year-old girl that was reported in the CBD. Click through for details:


Men in Surgical Masks Hold Up Algiers Mini Mart (VIDEO)


New Orleans police are searching for two men wanted for a Monday night armed robbery in Algiers. The men entered a store in the 3000 block of General Degaulle Street around 9 p.m. wearing masks, according to a police press release. They began yelling, “Where is the money? Give me the money!” as one of the men demanded that the clerk open the cash register.


Murder in Leonidas


A man was found shot on a Leonidas neighborhood sidewalk, and later died at the hospital in New Orleans' latest murder. The 18-year-old man was shot multiple times shortly before 11 p.m. Monday, according to New Orleans police. He was found near the corner of Eagle and Birch Streets, police said.


Suspects Sought in Milneburg Rape


New Orleans police are searching for two men (pictured) involved in a March 20 rape in the Milneburg area. The victim was sexually assaulted at the intersection of Mexico and St. Roch streets around 8:30 a.m., police said.


Bourbon St. Beater Booked with Battery


Update 2:30 p.m.

New Orleans police arrested a man involved in a Saturday morning Bourbon Street beatdown. William Busker, 22, was apprehended after beating a man until he was unconscious, according to records filed in Orleans Parish Municipal Court. Police said Busker, of Pearlington, Miss., was allegedly trying to buy cocaine in a strip club around 5:57 a.m. in the 300 block of Bourbon St.


Tip Leads Police to Uptown Stash of Stolen Scooters


A pair of stolen scooters recovered Uptown this week, as detectives got a tip that a man was hiding the motorbikes at his house. On Thursday, NOPD detective Shaun Ferguson got a tip from the public that the scooters were being hidden at a house in the 4300 block of Perrier St.


Fund Established for Marigny Bottle Beating Victim


A man who was brutally beaten with a bottle outside a Marigny bar is out of the hospital, but the effects of the attack will continue to linger for a long time. This week, the man's family established a fund at Regions Bank to help pay medical costs. On March 10, three men began following the victim near the Friendly Bar, at the corner of Marigny and Chartres Sts.
