Man Killed in Self Defense Shooting Worked Lighting for Leftover Salmon


A man who was fatally shot Sunday by a 7th Ward homeowner has been identified, according to a report by the Boulder Daily Camera. Joe Cahill, who worked as a lighting designer for the band Leftover Salmon, was killed after he entered the homeowner’s residence uninvited, bloodied and belligerent, according to New Orleans police.


Suspect Arrested in Marigny Muggings


A teen had his gun stolen from him while he was trying to commit a robbery, and still ended up in the clink. New Orleans police on Wednesday arrested a 16-year-old teen in connection with a string of Marigny armed robberies, including the infamous case caught on video during which a robbery victim disarmed the mugger.


Crime Bits: Triple Shooting, Streetcar Stop Robbery


New Orleans police are investigating several violent crimes that occurred within a 24-hour period. The incident, which all involved guns, range from shootings to carjackings and a knifing. There was also a case of missing pants.


Marigny Mugger Denied as Man Grabs His Shotgun (VIDEO)


Staring down the barrel of a shotgun was no moment of panic for a man in the Marigny early Saturday morning. Just after 5 a.m., an armed robber approached as he walked in the 1900 block of Burgundy Street. The robber, who was carrying a shotgun, held the gun up to the man's face and demanded his wallet. The man, in turn, demanded the gun, and quickly grabbed the weapon from the crook. Click through to view video of the man's deft moves.


Suspicious Bag Probed in CBD


Parts of the CBD were closed off to traffic Monday morning as police investigated an unattended gym bag that raised suspicions. The bag was brought to the attention of police after 6 a.m. in the 800 block of Common Street, according to officer Garry Flot, a spokesman for NOPD.


French Quarter Act of Generosity Ends in Robbery


Good karma was apparently in short supply in the French Quarter on Friday. For one man, a simple act of giving money to a homeless man ended up the victim of an attack and robbery, according to New Orleans police.


Suspects Sought in Triple Mid-City Shooting (VIDEO)


New Orleans police released video Thursday showing the two men who were allegedly responsible for a triple shooting in Mid-City on Tuesday. The shooting in the 4000 block of Baudin Street left two men dead and injured an eight-year-old boy.


Burger King Bandit Caught on Camera


New Orleans police are searching for a suspect who robbed a Burger King Saturday night, and got it his way. The man walked into the St. Roch restaurant, located near the corner of Franklin and N. Robertson Sts., at around 7:11 p.m., officials said.


Mid-City Triple Shooting: 2 Men Dead, Child Wounded


Two men died and an eight-year-old boy was wounded in a triple shooting Tuesday night in Mid-City. Around 5:50 p.m., shots rang out in the 4000 block of Baudin Street, police said.


Take Five: Arrest Ends French Quarter Robbery Rampage


Between Wednesday and Saturday, NOPD investigated five separate armed robberies in the French Quarter. Police allege all of the crimes were the work of one man. As of Sunday, this Vieux Carre villian was behind bars, according to NOPD.
