Rodeo New Orleans Lassoes Lakefront in September


The NOPD is giving New Orleanians a new alternative to Angola this fall. Organizers and members of the New Orleans Mounted Police gathered at the NOPD stables in City Park this morning to announce a new September event: Rodeo New Orleans.

The Big Easy’s four-legged enforcers now have a revamped stable. The home of NOPD’s Mounted Unit (Marconi Dr. & Harrison Avenue) just got a makeover, and they have the local painters union and Helm Paint to thank.


NOPD Mounted Unit Veteran Satan's War Rides Off Into the Sunset


After 20 years of enforcing equine justice under the law, the NOPD is retiring a vaunted veteran of Bourbon Street today. Satan's War, a member of the NOPD's Mounted Unit, is retiring due to signs of Cushing's Disease, and arthritis, according to police spokesman Frank Robertson III. A former thoroughbred racer, Satan's War is a descendant of legendary Triple Crown winner Secretariat, began his career with local police after being donated to the Mounted Division at a tender four years of age.
