Reports: Mr. Magic, Former No Limit Rapper, Dies in Car Accident

Mr. Magic, a rapper from the 9th Ward who recorded with the famed No Limit Records during the 1990s, reportedly died in a car accident Saturday, according to numerous reports on social media. According to Complex Music, Mr. Magic, born Awood Johnson, died in the accident with his wife. The crash reportedly took place in Mississippi,

Mystikal Leaves No Limit Past Behind, Signs with Cash Money Records

Back in the golden '90s, the thought of No Limit star Mystikal signing with Cash Money Records would've seemed either an act of pure treason, or a sign that the man born Michael Tyler went down to the crossroads to make a deal with the devil himself. After all, Hot Boy B.G. recorded diss tracks aimed at Mystikal like "Fuck Big Boy", and the dreaded don responded. But New Orleans hip-hop is a bit different these days. The big stars only visit during Thanksgiving, and anyone can work with Mannie Fresh. Thus did Mystikal sign with Cash Money today, and Birdman decreed the Big Tent period of NOLA rap fully underway.

Jet Life Jives

NOLA Producer-Emcee Nesby Phips on Touring with Curren$y, Coming Up Around Lil Wayne and Cash Money Records and the Blue Collar Side of Hip-Hop

When Curren$y’s Jet Life tour touched down at a sold-out Bourbon Street-themed club in Baltimore last month, there was plenty familiar besides the fledgling few Mardi Gras beads on the wall.

No Limit Soldier, Tre-8, Passes

A Saturday night car accident claimed the life of New Orleans rapper Tre-8. Da Paper reports the man who was born Walter McCallon died at a local hospital after the  Algiers accident. Five kin were in the car from him, but they all apparently survived. When he was 16 years old, Tre-8 was one of the earliest signings to the most successful incarnation of Master P's No Limit Records.
