Cabbie in Custody for Uptown RapeThe presence of GPS and security cameras in cabs led detectives to the arrest of a taxi driver who allegedly raped a woman Uptown last week, police said Tuesday. Officers nabbed Yellow Cab driver Sohail Khan, 40, in the 3200 block of D'Hemecourt Street for a sexual assault that occurred last week in the Uptown university area. Michoud Mayhem: Woman Dead, Bus Carrying Students Swamped After CrashChaos on the I-10 left a charter bus full of students in the swamp, and the driver of a car dead on Thursday morning. After 10 a.m., a woman driving a Honda Accord eastbound on Interstate 10 near the Michoud Boulevard lost control of her car as it began to hydroplane, according to New Orleans police. Birthday Party Murder Suspect Nabbed by NOPDOne of the alleged gunman involved in a quintuple shooting last May, which left a 5-year-old girl and a mother of three dead, and wounded several others, has been arrested, New Orleans police announced Monday. The night of May 29, 2012, 19-year-old Tyron Harden and two other accomplices allegedly shot a spray of bullets toward a birthday party in the 1200 block of Simon Bolivar Avenue. Murder in LeonidasA man was found shot on a Leonidas neighborhood sidewalk, and later died at the hospital in New Orleans' latest murder. The 18-year-old man was shot multiple times shortly before 11 p.m. Monday, according to New Orleans police. He was found near the corner of Eagle and Birch Streets, police said. City Plans Benefit for Wounded NOPD Officer John PassaroAfter John Passaro was wounded by gunfire while responding to a Bywater robbery, the man that shot the NOPD officer is still at-large. Passaro remains in recovery after being shot multiple times while responding to the call at the Dollar General store on St. Claude Ave. and Poland. Now, it's time for the New Orleans community to do its part. The City announced plans for an April 17 benefit concert for Passaro at Generations Hall (310 Andrew Higgins Dr.). Family of Unarmed Man Killed by Police Sues City, NOPDFor the second time in a week, the New Orleans Police Department and the City are facing a federal lawsuit over the killing of a citizen by a police officer. The family of Wendell Allen, who was killed by an officer while standing unarmed and shirtless in his mother's Gentilly home on March 7, 2012, filed a federal civil rights lawsuit this week against the NOPD, the City and the officer who shot the 20-year-old. Man Booked for Beating of Bonck, Buring Body in St. BernardNew Orleans police arrested a suspect who allegedly killed a New Orleans East man, then buried his body in St. Bernard Parish. Michael Vicknair, 35, allegedly bludgeoned Jeffrey Bonck Sr., 53, to death, officials said. Vicknair then dug a shallow grave, and buried Bonck in a wooded area of St. Bernard Parish. NOPD Officer Shot in Ninth WardUpdated 10:25 a.m. A New Orleans police officer was shot early Saturday morning while responding to an incident in the Upper Ninth Ward, according to police. The officer, whose name was not released, was shot while responding to a robbery at the Dollar General near the corner of St. Claude and Poland Ave. at about 7:30 a.m., according to police. The officer is currently in serious condition, and is receiving medical care. |
