Good morning, Big Easy! If that greeting sounds familiar, you probably remember Don “Moose” Jamison’s New Orleans Music Show, a wide-ranging audio adventure that came on WWOZ at 11 a.m. every Monday for years. Moose passed away in 2003, but his legacy of musical activism lives on in the Don “Moose” Jamison Heritage School of Music, which holds auditions for new students this weekend.

Bountiful Bookings Slated Across New Orleans This Fall



With the local spring festival season often crowded and the ever-expanding national summer festival season pulling in more and more acts, New Orleans citizens know all too well the feeling of viewing their favorite bands’ tour schedules and seeing their city leapfrogged and left out.  But we have finally come to fall, and event calendars around town are filling up quickly with out of town acts as well as unique local alternatives and new combinations of old favorites.


Harvest the Music Concert Lineup Unveiled


With Labor Day past us, fall lineups are coming in fast and furious. Today, the annual autumnal concert series in Lafayette Square known as Harvest the Music announced its lineup. Just like the spring's Wednesday at the Square, the happy hour concerts run from 5 - 8 p.m. In the fall, they benefit Second Harvest food bank, but admission is free. This year's series, which kicks off Sept. 19, is absurdly packed with all-star lineups, and includes Dr. John, Anders Osborne, a Mississippi blues blowout and much more. Louis Armstrong Park Concert Series Announces Fall Lineup


After gaining steam with a sporadic schedule in the spring, the concert series that brings live music back to Congo Square is returning with a packed fall lineup. Today, Jazz in the Park, which is sponsored by the advocacy group People United For Armstrong Park, announced its fall schedule of Thursday Treme concerts, which includes Soul Rebels, Treme Brass Band, John Boutte and many more New Orleans favorites. Uncle Lionel Batiste Passes

Tremé Brass Band Bass Drummer, New Orleans Icon Dies at 81



Uncle Lionel Batiste, longtime bass drummer of the Tremé Brass Band and patriarch of the famed Batiste family, died Sunday morning of complications from Stage 4 cancer, NoDef confirmed with friends of Batiste Sunday morning. He was 81.


Rebirth Brass Band to Open for Red Hot Chili Peppers


The 2012 winning streak only continues for Rebirth Brass Band. Since bringing home a Grammy back in February, Rebirth has been cementing their place around the world as the prime ambassadors of New Orleans music that we always knew they were. Next, they'll be taking their show to the arena. This summer, the 25-year vets will open eight dates for the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Basin Street Records announced today.
