Ring the Alarm: Some NOLA Firefighters Have ‘No Confidence’ in NOFD Chief McConnell


On Saturday (4.29), members of the New Orleans Fire Department (NOFD) and their families and friends picketed the NOFD Headquarters in the French Quarter to protest Chief Timothy McConnell. The demonstration follows a week of controversy for the department after it was made public that several key firefighters — including McConnell — were involved in the contentious takedown of the Battle at Liberty Place monument early Monday morning. 


NOFD Under Fire After Monument Removal


Following the take down of the Battle of Liberty Place monument early Monday morning by a team of masked movers, rumors abounded across the city and online that the New Orleans Fire Department (NOFD) was commissioned by Mayor Mitch Landrieu to remove the Confederate statue on Iberville Street. On Wednesday (4.26), New Orleans Firefighters Association President Nick Felton confirmed in a press conference that at least half a dozen firefighters were enlisted to take down the monument early Monday on Mayor Landrieu’s instructions.

Inevitably, holiday merry making sometimes devolves into a mess making. Beyond the potential for a holiday hangover, Christmas catastrophes can sometimes be serious, even deadly. So, the New Orleans Fire Deaprtment (NOFD) once again issued their annual list of holiday safety tips.

Tragedy struck in Algiers early on Tuesday (10.06) morning. A house fire claimed the life of one man and injured another according to the New Orleans Fire Department (NOFD)

Off-Duty Firefighter & Lawyer Saves Couple From Marigny Fire



A New Orleans firefighter is being hailed as a hero after saving a couple from a burning building while off duty. Over-achiever Roddrick Harrison’s quick instincts helped prevent tragedy when a blaze broke out in the Marigny Triangle last night.


Shuck Smoke: Kitchen Fire at Felix's


Quarter residents and visitors had a scare Thursday (4.16) morning when a fire broke out at oyster mecca, Felix’s (739 Iberville Street). In another stellar performance, the New Orleans Fire Department (NOFD) managed to get the blaze under control within 25 minutes.


Uptown Blaze: Man Jumps From Window, Cat Gets Oxygen


An Uptown blaze resulted in one man jumping from a second story window and a cat requiring emergency oxygen on Saturday (3.22) morning. The New Orleans Fire Department (NOFD) was able to extinguish the two alarm fire.

On Friday (3.07), the City placed 3,000 blighted properties on the auction block. One blighted property did not make it to the gavel. A three fire alarm ravaged a vacant Treme house and sparked a second blaze in a neighboring property early on Saturday (3.07) morning.

Victim of Garden District Fire Finds Hope in the Ashes



On Monday (3.3) night, Will Trufant stood in the doorway of his Marigny home wearing a pair of bright yellow rubber gloves. Behind him, a row of framed, vintage New Orleans art lined the hallway floor. Momus 1917. Jazz Fest 1980. An aroma akin to a campfire wafted through the building. “This is what we were able to salvage from my Grandfather’s office. I’m trying to scrub off the smoke and chemicals.”


Four Alarm Blaze in Garden District

A four alarm fire in the Garden District spewed smoke across the City on Tuesday (2.24) afternoon. The New Orleans Fire Department (NOFD) has been working to put out the inferno for over two hours.
