Today in NOLA 9.16.17

Today, celebrate the grand reopening of Music Box Village in the Bywater. Annunciation Park is taken over by an epic arts festival dedicated to hispanic heritage in New Orleans. Fashion and furry creatures come together at the 10th annual Bad to the Bone runway show, while some of the city's greatest musicians perform at Art Klub. On this day in 1964, The Beatles played City Park Stadium for $5 a ticket. Now, more details for today's festivities.

Today in NOLA 6.17.17

This Saturday, stroll your way to and through the art galleries of Julia Street, hang with the Chewbacchus krewe at the weirdest science fair in town, celebrate the summer solstice with a plant-themed dance party, or channel your inner Jack Sparrow and throw on your best pirate getup. On this day in 1978, the Gentilly streetcar ran for the final time. Now, more of today's happenings.

Quintron To Play The Weather

After 2014’s chilly Mardi Gras, all eyes in New Orleans are focused on forecasts. Quintron is lending his ears to the mix. The local legend will be staging the NOLA premier of his Weather Warlock project at New Orleans Airlift’s Alterpiece installation at St. Maurice Church (605 Maurice Avenue) on January 18. Alterpiece features televisions rewired to respond to sound and Weather Warlock features a drone synthesizer that responds to temperature, wind, sun, and rain.

Andrew WK to Ensure 'The Music Box' Parties Hard

by Brad Rhines

The question isn’t whether Andrew WK will party in New Orleans this weekend, the question is how hard.  The rock star, who’s debut album included tracks like “It’s time to Party,” “Party Hard,” and “Party til You Puke,” will take a break from dispensing party tips on Twitter and join the artists and musicians of the New Orleans Airlift for the final performances at “The Music Box: A Shantytown Sound Laboratory” on Saturday night.

Bywater 'Music Box' to Wind Up for the First Time This Weekend

by Brad Rhines

As Prospect.2 gears up for its city-wide opening on Saturday, a satellite exhibition by the New Orleans Airlift art collective is generating some serious buzz—not mention creaks, groans, clicks, and gongs. The Airlift has created its own little world on a previously razed lot at 1027 Piety Street in the Bywater, an installation of sound and structures dubbed “The Music Box: A Shantytown Sound Laboratory.”

Prospect.2 Organizers Hit Reset Button on Locally-Held International Art Biennial

With the recent announcement of Prospect.2 - delayed a year and considerably scaled back - Dan Cameron is rethinking his notions of success.

New Orleans Airlift Kickstarts Swoon's Musical House

If you’re impressed by what Quintron can do with a light bulb and a coffee can, just wait until he gets his hands on a musical house. Dithyrambalina is a large-scale project being organized by the New Orleans Airlift, an art collective in St. Claude, along with the help of Brooklyn-based, internationally-known artist Swoon, whose recently-unveiled giant sea goddess at NOMA was conceived in part to raise awareness for the downtown project.
