LSU Snags Top-4 Seed in NCAA Baseball Championship

The Boot will be represented in the Division I Baseball Championship this summer, as LSU was given the fourth seed in the NCAA’s summer classic. The LSU Tigers sailed into the fourth spot with a 43-17 ranking. The seeding guarantees that LSU will have home field advantage should they advance to the super-regionals — provided they win at the regional games this week.

Fournette's Consolation Prize

Leonard Fournette sixth place finish in the Heisman Trophy voting mirrored the disappointment of the LSU’s 2015 season. However, Fournette’s consolation prize is a bit better than the Tigers’ forthcoming trip to the AdvoCare V100 Texas Bowl. The NOLA native was named to the 2015 AP All-American First Team today.

Poll Positions

LSU’s win over Syracuse was not comforting to many fans, but the poll pundits were split on the performance. (They clearly do not  understand the frustration that is Les Miles.) The 4-0 Tigers jumped up in the rankings issued by the coaches and dropped in the AP rankings.

Near Miss

LSU v. Miss St. Plotlines

After last week’s LSU rainout, the Louisiana football faithful will be treated to two openers this weekend. The Tigers are one of the SEC’s biggest mysteries in 2015. Pundits have picked the Purple n’ Gold to finish everywhere from first to last. Tonight’s game is the conference’s first serious matchup of ranked teams. There will be lots to watch including Leonard Fournette, a pair of high school rivals, and of course, the Mad Hatter.

LSU's Martin Funk Dunks (Video)

The Brow had to sit out the NBA’s dunk competition during the All Star Weekend, but LSU’s Jarell Martin made sure that Louisiana was represented in the world of aerial acrobatics on Saturday (2.21). The sophomore forward’s dunk versus Florida became an instant viral sensation.

ULL, LSU Snag Top-8 Seeds in NCAA Baseball Tourney

Louisiana will be well represented in the Division I Baseball Championship this summer. LSU and ULL were respectively given the eight and six seeds in the NCAA’s summer classic. The ranking guarantees that in addition to hating regionals, both teams will have home field advantage should they advance to the super-regionals.

Archie Manning on College Football Playoff Selection Committee

This season's college football national championship will be worked out by computer, and we're not talking about Nick Saban. The Bowl Championship Series' computer ranking system has one more time to ply its magic formula, then it's time for humans to take over. This being the NCAA, the new football playoff will be selected by committee. On Wednesday, the 13 members of that committee were announced, and New Orleans great Archie Manning is among them.

LSU Overpowers Florida, 17-6

SEC power football hadn't been heard from for a while, but there was a sighting in Baton Rouge on Saturday afternoon. And, as it often goes in Death Valley, the LSU Fighting Tigers were able to impose their will on the visiting side. Relying on a reawakened defense and the power run game, the Bayou Bengals came away with a 17-6 victory over Florida to improve to 6-1 (3-1 SEC).

NCAA Bars UNO Basketball From Postseason Over Grades

The University of New Orleans basketball teams won't get a chance to go to the Big Dance next year. The NCAA slapped the Privateer men's and women's programs with postseason suspensions for the 2013-14 season Tuesday because of bad grades, according to the school's sports department.
