Moratorium on Granting of Alcohol Sales Permits in L9W by Arielle Schecter
The New Orleans City Council unanimously passed a temporary moratorium on the granting of new alcohol sales permits in the Lower Ninth Ward. For the period of one year, owners of new restaurants, bars, stores, and lounges in the neighborhood will be unable to procure official licensure for the sale of alcohol. The moratorium does not affect business owners who already possess relevant permits. NoDef can only imagine this is part of Mayor Landrieu's forthcoming "Great Society" initiative.
