Gypsyphonic Remixes Mardi GrasGalactic's Ben Ellman and DJ Quickie Mart built up a quick following after two servings of Balkan Bounce in their side project Gypsyphonic Disko. For their next project, the pair decided to come back home for Carnival, using nostalgic Mardi Gras classics as a base for a bounce remix. Anamanaguchi's PlaylistBy Ary Warnaar Hola Nola- and hola video game instrumentors Anamanaguchi. Peter Berkman, James DeVito, Ary Warnaar, and Luke Silas make ‘chiptune punk’, music created from outdated technological consoles, from computers to gameboys- and it’s as raw as digital gets. Getting In Their MixFamiliar Faces From Soulive, Galactic Duck Behind The Tables For Friday Night SetsFriday night, some frequent visitors of the Big Easy will bring new looks to Tipitina's, as two familiar artists will be making their New Orleans debut with DJ sets.
Hola Nola: Vol XLVIIJazzfest Cube CritiqueHola Nola, and hola the first non-celebrity music mixtape in weeks. The original Hola Nola hop skip and jump is back to address the announcing of the cubes - the Jazzfest cubes, that is. The schedule is out for this year's fete at the Fair Grounds, and decisions must be made. The following playlist goes through my top two choices per day, and the sacrifices that will need to be made when circling (in pencil) the who/what/where from April 29th-May 8th. Ra Ra RiotHola Nola: A Celebrity Mixtape Series- Vol VIIIHola Nola- and hola Syracuse Stringin’, Indie pop singin’ Ra Ra Riot. These folks are off and running after a demo, four EPS, and two hit full lengths, numerous smash singles (not to mention honorable remixes of such tunes, aka Passion Pit’s ‘Ghost Under Rocks’ edit) feature film soundtrack fame, oh, and a country-wide tour. Lucky for us, the next stop is Foburg, TONIGHT. The Hood InternetHola Nola: A Celebrity Mixtape Series- Vol VIHola Nola- and Hola Chi-town mashup duo ‘Steve Sleeve’ Reidell Aaron Brink, aka The Hood Internet. With close to 200 remixes to their name, the pair have established a name for themselves. Alex McMurrayHola Nola: A Celebrity Mixtape Series- Vol VHola Nola- and hola storytelling, Chazfesting, Alex McMurray, king of the local music grind, and father of keeping his colleagues in (and around) the Jazz Fest scene. Whether going solo or jumping in with two, three, and four piece bands (hola the Valparaiso Men’s Chorus, hola the Tin Men), Alex has made a name for himself as a man of music and musings, generously sharing words through thought and song. Broken Social SceneHOLA NOLA: Celebrity Mixtape Edition- Vol IVHola Nola- and Hola Brendan Canning of Canadian indie sires Broken Social Scene. Alt Grammy NomsHola Nola: Vol. XXXXVIHola Nola, and Hola the 53rd Annual Grammys, an award ceremony that possibly outweighs the Oscars in rapid deterioration of standards and integrity loss. Hola Nola: XXXXVSuperbowl XLVHola Nola- and hola Superbowl XLV- undoubtedly less interesting than Superbowl XLIV, yet still bound to take place this Sunday, February 6th. Because New Orleans is not in the running for a 'Two Dat' victory (although you can still wear your Two-Dat Walgreens bracelet on game day) the Pittsburgh Steelers and Greenbay Packers will fight for number one. |
