Power Update: Lights Come on for 28,000On Sunday, there was much rejoicing in downtown New Orleans and across the city, as large parts of the Marigny-Bywater and more than 28,000 New Orleanians saw their houses light up and their air conditioning turn on for the first time since last Tuesday. Overall, outages remained across the city as more than 35,000 customers remained off the grid at about 10 a.m. Monday morning. Downtown Neighborhoods Hold Budget Forum TonightMayor Mitch held budget forums to allow the public to speak up on the budget in all five City Council districts. But since the District C forum was held in Algiers, a group of neighborhoods in the area of the district on the East Bank of the Mississippi are holding their own forum tonight. French Quarter, Treme, Marigny and Bywater residents are invited to St. Mark's Church (1130 N. Rampart St.) for the meeting, which will take place from 6-7:30 p.m. Organizers say they want to provide officials with "as much community input as feasibly possible" in the budget process. Crescent City Crime BitsNew Orleans Police Blotter: August 16-22In this week's file of foul play, a mugger with a metal pipe struck twice, a teen was connected to a Saturday night out filled with carjackings and shootings and a man was tied up in his own home by a pair of acquaintances. Each week, Crescent City Crime Bits provides a full look at the past seven days on the police beat: Marigny Mugger Caught Attacking Woman on Camera (VIDEO)A mugging in the Marigny Triangle was caught on tape, and now police are looking to ID the man who jumped out of a car and put a woman in a headlock on Burgundy Street early Friday morning. According to police, the woman and a friend were walking at about 1:15 a.m. in the 1900 block of Burgundy when a man attacked. He allegedly jumped out of a silver car, put the woman in a headlock and hit her several times in the face. The man demanded the pair's property, but then got back into the car, and didn't take any items. Citing the 75-foot height of the proposed Marigny development's tallest building, the Historic District Landmarks Commission denied conceptual approval of the residential and commercial complex. Developer Sean Cummings wants to build a three-building complex at the corner of Elysian Fields Ave. and Decatur St., but ran into neighborhood opposition - lead by the Faubourg Marigny Improvement Association - over the height of the tallest building. Rancor on RiseDeveloper Sean Cummings, Marigny Residents at Odds Over Plans for High RiseOver the last few weeks, the Marigny has once again become the setting for high drama.
