NOPD Looking for Marigny Miscreants: Laptop Thief, Burglar Wanted (VIDEO)

Through YouTube video edited to look like an action movie sequence and traditional wanted poster, New Orleans police are asking for the public's help to track down suspects for a pair of November crimes that happened at opposite ends of the Marigny. In the first incident, a man took a laptop from a house in the 2000 block of Burgundy St on Nov. 6. Aiming and succeeding in getting everyone's attention, police added action movie music, quick cuts, and sharper lettering to surveillance video that was obtained in connection with the case. Bicyclists Robbed, Burglars Busted in Marigny-Bywater Over Weekend

In addition to crime in the French Quarter and the 7th Ward, the Marigny-Bywater saw a swell of swindles over the weekend, according to NOPD reports. The weekend crime wave started Friday, with a holdup on St. Claude that turned into a chase. On Saturday morning, two more robberies were committed five minutes apart against men riding bikes in the Marigny. On Sunday, police hauled in a pair of teens after they broke into a France Street house. Read on for details:

Ruby Slipper Brings Brunch to Burgundy

by M.D. Dupuy

Frenchmen Street is great for a quick bite at Mona’s or tachos from 13, but nearby residents lack options in terms of neighborhood dining.  Local restaurateurs from Ruby Slippers heard the call of the Marigny folk and brought brunch to Burgundy. That’s right, the breakfast favorite opened their third location on the corner of Touro, and they even added a new item to their expansive menu.

NOPD Tracks Stolen iPhones to Three-Peat Thief

One iPhone wasn't enough for one teenage robber on Wednesday night, and he ultimately fell victim to the Clould. A 15-year-old man who allegedly wielded a gun in robberies in the French Quarter, on Frenchmen Street and in the Marigny on Wednesday was arrested after stolen smartphones were traced to his location. Cops caught up with the teen in the 5300 block of Urquhart St., which is in the Lower 9th Ward, hours after the robbery rampage began at about 7:30 p.m., according to police.

We've Got Soul Pop-Up Proprietors Robbed, Community Plans Benefits

by M.D. Dupuy

Just as one of the Marigny's up-and-coming pop-up restaurants, We've Got Soul, was beginning to turn a profit from all of its sold out soul food, Chef Tres Barnard and his girlfriend Emily are back at square one. The entrepreneurial couple's home was burglarized Friday night, and the thief in question stole all of their hard-earned dough from their past couple months in business. However, Barnard is hopeful about getting back on his feet, and a pair of benefits this week will offer a chance for the community to help out.

Weekend Fests Spotlight 4 New Orleans Communities

New Orleans neighborhoods:  you’ve walked around in them, you’ve marveled at their crooked streets, their sometimes lopsided houses, their towering magnolias, and the one guy walking his fawn-colored pit bull in pajamas. This weekend: celebrate them.

Open from 6pm-3am exclusively on Fridays, the latest creation of Chef Tres Barnard features a new soul food menu every week and has been getting rave reviews since it opened a month ago.

Robbery at Gene's Po-Boys Caught on Camera (VIDEO)

Police are seeking a suspect in connection with a robbery at Gene's Po-Boys. The August 24 incident happened around 1 a.m., when a man entered the Marigny sandwich hotspot at the corner of St. Claude and Elysian Fields Avenues, wearing a shirt over his head, and pointed a semiautomatic gun at the cashier. He made off with $375 from the register. The suspect is described as a 40-year-old black male, about 5'10" tall and weighing 180 lbs. The entire incident was caught on Gene's security cameras. Holdup at Hi-Ho Lounge

The Hi-Ho Lounge was robbed Saturday night, according to a police report released Tuesday. About 11:30 p.m., a masked man carrying a gun entered the bar, located at the corner of St. Claude Ave. and Marigny Street. He forced everyone inside the popular downtown hangout to lie on the floor. Then, he threw a bag to the bartender ordering them to put money from the register in the bag. The bartender put an undisclosed amount of money into the bag, and the robber fled.
