Group of Grads Seeks to Revitalize Krewe of Freret's Spot on Carnival Calendar

It’s been almost 20 years since the Krewe of Freret last rode through the neighborhood. But thanks to a fledgling group of young men taking cues from the Uptown corridor's commercial revitalization, a new parade may once again roll behind a banner baring that name.

Box of Wine Parade Switches to Tea For Saturday Fundraiser

Superkrewes may be the engine of Carnival but the beating heart of the season lies in the small walking krewes that we happen upon without even planning on it. One such merry band, Box of Wine, doesn't even require you to leave St. Charles Ave. The krewe notoriously marches on the main Uptown parade route between the morning parades and Bacchus on the Sunday before Fat Tuesday. On Saturday night, the krewe is giving everyone a teaser of the revelry to come, and a chance to help them pay their bills at a Julia Street gallery.

City Council Makes Way For Krewe of Nyx

With Ladyfest underway and all-female walking club, YeMaYa, gearing up for their inaugural march tomorrow night, the City Council threw parade route-ready ladies some more lagniappe yesterday. To make way for an all-female krewe called the Mystic Krewe of Nyx,   the Council agreed to amend the Carnival schedule. Nyx will roll on the Wednesday before Fat Tuesday, following the Krewe of Druids on the Uptown parade route down St. Charles Ave.
