Hola Nola, and hola Edna Karr Magnet High School senior, and singer/songwriter Kourtney Heart. Now 17, Heart has been performing since the age of three. She hit the local music scene as the opening act of artists like Kelly Price and Trey Songz. In 2010, she made a name for her own in hip-hop and R&B land with the hit single “My Boy”, a track that features the late, great Magnolia Shorty keeping it straight Bounce ('Don't trip, do the K. Heart tip').
Magnolia Shorty Murder Investigation ContinuesThe late Magnolia Shorty's famous friends have come to pay their respects, and a jazz funeral gave her a fitting send-off late last year. But police are still working to piece together the details of her murder. Today, NOPD said they are seeking Brandon Singleton, 24, who might have information about the Dec. 20, 2010, double murder that took one of the city's Bounce icons and Jerome "Man-Man" Hampton. Police said Singleton is an Uptown resident. Rumors have long persisted that Hampton was the target of the New Orleans East killing, but few official details have been released. NoDef NodsTen Events That Defined '10In a place where the collective experience of parades, boomer musician curtain calls, and Cape Verdean storm systems already occupy a huge portion of private life, the events of the past year caused all New Orleanians to speak with a single guttural noise. From Causeway to Gulf, there rang out a booming “Who Dat” as the little football team that a few people pay attention to gave us deliverance. NoDef Nods10 in '10/11 in '11: Best MusicSure, we sent them the horns and the swing. The funk and the kings (of the street). But this year, NOLA exported some seriously diverse music from the provinces to the nation. Magnolia UpdateAs predicted, the NOPD continues to release information (slowly but surely) regarding the double homicide Magnolia Shorty and who has been officially identified as Jerome ‘Man Man’ Hampton. There is also at this time a ‘person of interest’ (aka not a suspect, yet) that the NOPD seeks to contact and discuss the murder, based on corner store security camera stills. Too Soon: Respects to Magnolia ShortyIt can be assumed that by now most have heard the tragic news of twenty-eight year-young Magnolia Shorty's death yesterday, December 20th, 2010. Just after noon, Magnolia (born Renetta Lowe) was driving with who is still an unidentified male victim, when the two were sprayed with gunfire in Shorty's own neighborhood in the East, in the 6300 Block of Bridgehampton Drive. |
