City Park Beer Fest Draws Canadians, Dogs

by Emma Boyce

Get off the couch and away from those sappy Sarah McLachlan commercials because this Saturday from noon to five City Park goes to the dogs!  For a third time, Bulldog partners with the LA/SPCA for their annual New Orleans on Tap Beer Festival and Fundraiser at the Big Lake Boathouse, featuring more than 200 brews.

Tomorrow: Eat Out in New Orleans, Help Pets

To many a diner's chagrin, local laws require New Orleanians to leave their pets at home when eating out at most local establishments. But two of the city's chief pre-occupations will finally come together on Thursday, June 14, when dozens of restaurants will donate proceeds to the Louisiana Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. Fully 40 dining establishments are set to participate in Pause 4 Dinner, with each donating 20 percent of the night's proceeds to the organization, and, in turn, animal welfare. Check out the list of participating restaurants:

All-Cat Voting Precinct Plans Nixed

Along with white knight and public meeting sarge, Mayor Mitch seems to be minting himself as master of who-will-blink-first negotiation. Yesterday, the city's long-doomed contract with the Louisiana SPCA was magically renewed for four years. Though the animal control agency initially said they weren't getting enough money to provide services, the $1.92 million contract fit their needs in the end. Stray cat plans for the inaugural Krewe du Mew suddenly seem up in the air.
