John Bel Edwards Running for Governor in 2015

With Bobby Jindal looking toward the White House, it's already time to start thinking about who will replace him in Baton Rouge. One candidate already emerged from the field on Wendesday: State Rep. John Bel Edwards. The Amite Democrat made the announcement on this morning's edition of The Jim Engster Show, a radio show broadcast on Baton Rouge's WRKF.

Louisiana congressmen Jeff Landry (R - New Iberia) and Charles Boustany M.D. (R - Lafayette) find themselves in unfamiliar territory—as their two districts have become one united Acadiana apportionment. This is not uncommon in the current state of Louisiana politics, as the population shifts and dips became clear after the 2010 census. Now, in the 2012 elections, these two incumbents have been forced to battle it out for the last seat in town, and that battle has stretched out from November 6 to December 8, where the winner will really take it all.

'Budgie' Roemer Passes

Before there was Buddy, there was Budgie. Charles Elson "Budgie" Roemer Sr., a longtime state politico who helped Edwin Edwards kickstart his career and the father of former Governor Buddy Roemer, died Sunday in Bossier Parish of complications from Alzheimer's disease. He was 89.  A former state Commissioner of Administration under EWE, Budgie was described by family as a farmer at heart who owned helped LSU introduce a new cotton variety into Southern agriculture, and owned two cotton gins and several crop dusters. State Dems Bump Buddy for Karen Carter-Peterson

After the Louisiana Democratic Party left last fall's statewide elections for the Republicans to fight amongst themselves, there was a feeling that a change was gonna come.
