Green Dot Special

Liberty’s Kitchen has been steadily growing for years, but the organization never forgot their roots. The culinary community group will continue that growth while offering a reminder of their early days following the Federal Flood with the opening of the Green Dot Cafe at the Rosa F. Keller Library and Community Center (4300 South Broad Street).

Whole Foods Broad Turns One

It seems like yesterday that the concept of putting a Whole Foods on Broad Street seemed absurd. However, the upscale market was built and has thrived in the 300 North Broad location. On Thursday (2.04), the location will celebrate their one year anniversary with a public party.

Liberty Dwell

Liberty's Kitchen ReOpens on Broad

Formerly located in a shotgun house, underneath a law office, Liberty’s Kitchen has found a new home in the ReFresh Project at North Broad and Bienville. While the non profit  only moved five blocks from its original location — for staff members and students — the move is more than just physical. At today’s grand opening, the sentiment was felt by all - including program director Dennis Bagneris.

Hogs for the Cause Adds Friday Music, Hoggy Snacks

by Stacy Coco

Lenten restrictions on meat and revelry will not be observed in City Park on Friday, as pork, beer -- and, this year, music -- rolls into the Festival Grounds to kick off the annual Hogs for the Cause. The 6th edition of the fest is set to add an additional night of music, and some little piggy snacks.

MVB to Revive Burger at Liberty's Kitchen

by Brad Rhines

Before the plethora of pop-ups in New Orleans, and before fine-dining chefs around town turned their attention to burgers and pizza, there was MVB.  Way back in October of 2010, folks lined up outside Slim Goodies Diner on Sunday evenings for three things, and three things only: burgers, fries, and shakes.  MVB closed at the end of last summer—pop-ups by definition, after all, are meant to be temporary—but this week fans were delighted to hear that the MVB burger is returning to New Orleans.

Tonight: I-Club Raises Money for Liberty's Kitchen

Irvin Mayfield's I-Club is designed to promote young Louisiana musicians. Tonight, the trumpeter is helping out aspiring chefs, too. The Club will host a fundrasier for Liberty's Kitchen, a N. Broad St. cafe that doubles as a culinary training program for New Orleans kids ages 16-22. Mayfield's organ combo, Purple Disrespect, will provide music, and the Liberty's Kitchen crew will prepare a special appetizer. Tickets start at $20, and the event starts at 8 p.m.
