Elvi Abroad

Krewe of Rolling Elvi Members Bring Medical Care - and Mardi Gras - to Haiti

Dr. MarkAlain Dery’s commitment to upholding the Hippocratic Oath ranks just above his commitment to the Krewe of the Rolling Elvi. Back in March, while most folks in New Orleans were recovering from Mardi Gras and looking forward to Jazz Fest, Dery, an Assistant Professor of Clinical Medicine at Tulane’s School of Medicine, was volunteering at Sante Total, a clinic in Jacsonville, Haiti.

Buzz Still Felt After Finn McCool's St. Baldrick's Fundraiser

by Brad Rhines

For those tracking New Orleans’ springtime fashion trends, bald is beautiful.  All of the cool kids are rockin’ freshly shorn domes this week, after the St. Baldrick’s Foundation fundraiser at Finn McCool’s on Saturday.  While the total is still unofficial, Finn McCool’s raised over $47,000 in online donations before the event even started, and some expect on-site contributions to raise the final tally to nearly $60,000—which is double the organizers’ initial goal—thanks to the help of groups like the Rolling Elvi, the Big Easy Roller Girls, and Kickball of Crescent City.

'It'll All Grow Back': Finn McCool's to Get Out the Clippers for St. Baldrick's Day

by Brad Rhines

The fur will be flying at Finn McCool’s this weekend as locals line up to go bald for a cause. Mid-City’s favorite Irish pub will be hosting their third annual St. Baldrick’s Day fundraiser to benefit the St. Baldrick’s Foundation, a charity organization devoted to fighting pediatric cancer.  Saturday’s event is truly a community affair, as the Rolling Elvi, the Big Easy Roller Girls, and Kickball of Crescent City, all have teams raising money and shaving heads to show their support.

Krewe of Rolling Elvi to Get Off Their Scooters and Jailhouse Rock

by Brad Rhines

The Krewe of Rolling Elvi will add some new twists, turns, and hip swivels to their Carnival appearances this year with the Jailhouse Rockers, an all-Elvi dance krewe inspired by the King’s 1957 film.  The Rockers debuted late last year, but this will be their first Mardi Gras, as they join the procession of Elvi and Priscillas in this year’s Muses parade.

Magazine St. Blues Festival

Uptown Fest to Raise Scooter Awareness, Money for Cops

Usually when folks on Magazine Street are talking about blues, they’re discussing denim, frocks, or fall fashions. This weekend, however, the Uptown thoroughfare best known for bars and boutiques brings a little more life to the block with the 3rd Annual Magazine Street Blues Festival.

Elvi Set to Roll

By Brad Rhines

Thirty-four years ago today, the King ceded his throne.  Elvis Presley died on August 16, 1977, at the age of 42, but one local group is doing everything they can to make sure the king of rock and roll’s legacy continues to both rock and roll.  This weekend, the Krewe of the Rolling Elvi is celebrating the King and themselves, with the First Annual Death Day/ KRE Appreciation Party at the Rusty Nail.

Elvis to Protect Mid-City in Tonight's Walk against Crime

by Arielle Schecter

The Mid-City Yacht Club is hosting a neighborhood party to follow tonight's 3rd District Walk Against Crime. NOPD Captain Harry Dean will lead the march at 6:30pm from St. Patrick's Playground, flanked by "deputized" Rolling Elvi and the Big Easy Roller Girls. Mid-City Yacht Club owner Ben Markey expects nearly 100 people to take part of the event, which will reach the bar by 8pm. "It's going to be good," he said, and NoDef believes him. Hell, any event with roller Elvi and Derby Girls is good in our book.
