Parade Planner: Proteus & Orpheus

Skies are mostly clear this afternoon for Lundi Gras, but parade goers should bring an umbrella to the route for Proteus and Orpheus tonight. The National Weather Service (NWS) predicts a 50 percent chance of thunderstorms before 8PM. Temperatures are set to rise to the high 70's this afternoon, before they drop down to the upper 60's. Click through for tonight's route.

TODAY in NOLA 2.27.17

Rain or shine, Lundi Gras celebrations are happening all day, from Proteus and Orpheus taking their parade down St. Charles to Red Beans marching in the Marigny. Big Chief Alfred Doucette is playing Bar Redux. Washboard Chaz headlines the Carver's Lundi Gras event. On this day in 1827, New Orleans kicked off her first ever Mardi Gras.

2017 Carnival Parade Schedule

What is a more fitting way for NoDef to come back than with our annual guide to Carnival parades? Here is the 2017 schedule for all the walking krewes, float parades, and throws in Orleans Parish, all leading up to the revelry of Mardi Gras Day.

Orpheus' Capades

Get your ladders ready. Orpheus rolls in just a couple of weeks. In advance of the super-krewe’s February 8th parade, the krewe released details including royalty and musical guests today.

Tis' The Season

2016 Carnival Parade Schedule

In most years, the day after of the Epiphany is a little early to worry about parade schedules, but Mardi Gras comes early in 2015. So, the floats will be rolling in a couple of weeks. Even with a fairly fixed schedule, the dozens of options (combined with the seasonal libations) can make it all a little confusing. So, NoDef offers our annaul guide to the Carnival parades.

Today in New Orleans: 1.11.14

Who Dat! The Saints are in Seattle today, so let the game day rituals begin for the second road playoff game. After the showdown, the Krewe of Orpheus is inviting everyone to their “13th Night” annual celebration, and Southern Rep’s two-day theatre festival comes to a close after a full day’s worth of events. On this day in 1965, black professional football players boycotted the AFL Allstar game in New Orleans. Now, more ways to spend your Saturday before, during and after the game.

Fats Domino Named Krewe of Orpheus' Honorary Grand Marshal

From Al Johnson to Pete Fountain, local musicians always figure heavily into Carnival parades. But until this year, Fats Domino has largely sat out of the festivities. The legendary R&B crooner is set to have his name illuminated in lights all over again. According to the AP, Domino will serve as honorary Grand Marshal for the Krewe of Orpheus' Lundi Gras procession down St. Charles.

Lundi Gras 2.11.13

It’s the last night of night parades! Don’t let rain get in the way of your Lundi Gras. Once the parades pass, there’s live music everywhere in the city, from uptown to the Marigny. On this day in 1932, the late Uncle Lionel (Lionel Paul Batiste, Sr.) was born. Now, more to do this magical Monday.

Rain in Forecast Brings Mardi Gras Parade Schedule Shuffle

With rain in the forecast, Carnival krewes have traded the rain dance for the schedule shuffle. NOPD announced that parades on Sunday and Monday are set to move up their parading times, with no changes planned for Fat Tuesday festivities.

Mardi Gras 2013 Parade Schedule

The Super Bowl and an early Mardi Gras are pushing Carnival parades up earlier than ever before in 2013. But New Orleans is no less ready for the extended period of partying and, of course, parades. Here's the 2013 schedule for Carnival marches in Orleans Parish, all leading up to the explosion of excess on Mardi Gras Day:
