Captain's Log: Parade Prep with the Mystic Krewe of Nyx

The Mystic Krewe of Nyx made their second ride down St. Charles last night, retaking their place as New Orleans’ newest addition to the Carnival season.  The all-female krewe assembled first at Generations Hall for food, fun, drink, and a float-member skit contest.  Then came the culmination of 11 months of planning by Krewe Captain Julie Lea and her Board of Directors: a dazzling parade down St. Charles, and party into the night.

Last night's Krewes put an end to the parade pause, and streets were teeming with revelers. Druids' "Phobias," theme was a success, and the ladies of Nyx dazzled crowds with their generous throws. If you had to miss the parades for any reason, you can still get a glimpse of all the floats, marching krewes, bands, and people on the route. Click for photos.

Carnival Comeback: Druids, Nyx Roll Tonight

After a Super Bowl break, Carnival returns to New Orleans in full plume Wednesday. The mysterious Krewe of Druids gets rolling first, keeping many of the details of their annual romp shrouded - except, of course for where to catch them. Wednesday night is rounded out by the all-female Krewe of Nyx, who are set to make their second ride down St. Charles.

Parades are beginning again, so hurry home from work and get a spot on the route for Druids and Nyx! Support the New Orleans Hornets at their home game against the Suns, or see live music all over the city. Happy Birthday to Cajun accordionist and Rock N Bowl regular Geno Delafose, born in Eunice, Louisiana in 1971. Now, more hump day happenings.
