Grand Krewe

Cork Parade in Photos

A favorite foot parade of locals, Krewe of Cork opened the bottle on Carnival Friday (1.29) afternoon. For a few hours, hundred of locals dresssed as grapes, glasses, and bottles meandering through the Quarter dispensing a fine vintage of Mardi Gras cheer. Paulo Steven Diniz was out on the scene so y'all can sip in scene the below.

Today in New Orleans, it’s Friday Night at NOMA, and Tipitina’s will host John “Papa” Gros Karnival Kickoff. Aaron Carter will bring a grown-up “Aaron’s Party” to the Willow. Krewe of Cork will roll in the French Quarter. Twelve years ago today, Ivan Neville starred as the musical guest on The Late Show with David Letterman. Now, more Friday happenings.

Krewe of Cork rolled through the French Quarter on Friday (2.6.) Traditionally, members marched dressed to mimic their favorite libations. They toted glasses of wine and donned cork encrusted capes as onlookers marvelled at their spritely attire. And, yes, there was some imbibing as well.

Krewe of Cork Parades Puns Through French Quarter

The Krewe of Cork turns 14 this year, which means they are of legal drinking age in New Orleans. The walking winos lined up on Royal Street this afternoon at 3 p.m. to kick off a long night of Carnival parades. Punny costumes from "cork jesters" to "Rhone Burgundy" packed the block. While the foot krewe was far from stingy, there were more concerned with sipping on their goblets and glasses than sharing beads with the crowd. Click through for more pictures.

Vintage Parade: Krewe of Cork Marches in FQ Today

by Sarah Esenwein

Today Grand Marshall Jean Charles Boisset will expertly saber a champagne bottle (lobbing the top off with a large sword) at the Court of Two Sisters.  This will christen the kick-off of Krewe of Cork’s (Lucky) thirteenth year.  You will see them winding through the French Quarter, clad in their signature purple and gold wine-themed costumes, tossing trademark throws and swilling the nectar of the Gods.  Being a walking parade is a very special quality to the founder, Patrick von Hoorsbeek as “Connecting with the people is most important.”

It’s Carnival season, and there are walking and rolling krewes from Uptown to the Vieux Carre! Once you’ve paraded and gathered your beads, catch live music, theater, and more across the Big Easy. Happy Birthday to Chris Severin! The local musician and educator makes 55 today. Now, more Friday night happenings.
