Parade Planner: Okeanos, Mid-City, Thoth, Bacchus

Today begins the final parade stretch. The day kicks off at 11AM with the Krewe of Okeanos, followed by Mid-City, and then Thoth rolls along their signature Uptown route at noon. After the break in the parades, actor Jim Caviezel reigns over Bacchus at 5:15PM.

TODAY in NOLA 2.26.17

Looking for some new musical discoveries? Euro pop artists LEON and Jacob Banks are playing Gasa Gasa. On the other end of the spectrum, NOLA all-stars Dumpstaphunk, the Jason Neville Band, and Big Chief Monk Boudreaux are all playing shows around town. And don't forget Okeanos, Mid-City, Thoth, and Bacchus all roll today. On this day in 1842, a group of men were arrested at 2AM for having too much fun, cited for "unlawful assemblage, fiddling and dancing." Honor their memories and read on more to do this Sunday.

Tis' The Season

2016 Carnival Parade Schedule

In most years, the day after of the Epiphany is a little early to worry about parade schedules, but Mardi Gras comes early in 2015. So, the floats will be rolling in a couple of weeks. Even with a fairly fixed schedule, the dozens of options (combined with the seasonal libations) can make it all a little confusing. So, NoDef offers our annaul guide to the Carnival parades.

Route Redux: Bacchus (PHOTOS)

Crowds filled both sides of St. Charles Avenue for Sunday Gras, where Bacchus rolled down the Avenue for the 46th year. Hugh Laurie reigned as this year's celebrity king of the super krewe. Click through for photos by Daniel Paschall.

Parade Planner: Routes, Weather for Thoth, Bacchus & More

The day kicks off at 11 a.m. with the Krewe of Okeanos, followed by Mid-City, and then Thoth rolls along their signature route at noon. After the break in the parades, Hugh Laurie reigns over Bacchus at 5:15 p.m.

Hugh Laurie Set for 'Exquisitely Scented' Reign as Bacchus King

Hugh Laurie was in town last week to lend his blues to a benefit for Professor Longhair and his family home. He unfortunately had to leave us before the weekend. But like so many visitors, the House star was sure to sew up his next visit before flying out. Come Carnival, Laurie will be back to reign as King in the Krewe of Bacchus parade.

Mardi Gras Rewind: Marching Bands Battle Before Bacchus

by Ryan Sparks/Photos by Ryan Hodgson-Rigsbee

For residents of the riverside neighborhoods in Uptown, the noise of the port is a part of life. Not much can overpower the squealing wheels of the freight trains or the broad tones of a ship’s horns. Except the sounds of a parade, of course. On the Carnival nights when the superkrewes of Bacchus and Orpheus roll, the stretch of Tchoupitoulas between Napoleon Avenue and Bordeaux turns into a full-on battleground for the marching bands getting ready to march down St. Charles Ave.

Krewe Review: Thoth, Mid City, Bacchus (Photos)

Many who stayed on the route from Iris to Bacchus are still recovering from a long Dimanche. Check out photos of all the parades, plus 610 Stompers, Gris Gris Strutters, and eager bead-ers in the crowd.

Today in New Orleans 2.10.13

Super Sunday is here, and the parades are rolling early on account of the rain! On this day in 1932, late Zydeco legend Rockin' Dopsie was born in Carencro, Louisiana. Stay with NoDef for post-parade listings. Happy Mardi Gras!

G.W. Bailey, Ruby Bridges to Ride in Bacchus, Muses

Carnival kings and queens are mostly crowned in the confines of ballrooms, but the real royalty comes to town the night of the actual parade. In the final run-up to their showstopping parades, the boys of Bacchus and the Muses ladies announced their King and their Honorary Muse. Police Academy fans will fight on the front lines for beads from Actor G.W. Bailey, and everyone will be thrilled to see Ruby Bridges slinging shoes in Muses.
