Happy Labor Day, New Orleanians! Enjoy the last lazy days of summer with a few laidback events around town. The Allways welcomes a drag reunion, and Santos Bar invites aspiring performers to take to their stage for an open mic event. It's a survival of the funniest at The New Movement, while Instant Opus returns to the Hi-Ho. On this day in 1948, a devastating hurricane with winds up to 90 MPH hit New Orleans, creating extensively damage but thankfully no loss of life. Forecasters began naming hurricanes in 1950. Read on for details tonight below.

Today in NOLA 8.21.17

This Monday at around noontime, a solar eclipse will sweep across the country — do you know where you'll be to view it? From the bayou waters to the city's art museums, the possibilities are endless. Tonight, catch a horror double feature off Frenchmen. It's a comedy showdown at the New Movement, while Instant Opus returns to the Hi-Ho. Betty Who takes the stage at Republic. On this date in 1769, Governor O’Reilly arrested the leaders of a revolution that ousted Governor Ulloa. Now, more to do this Monday.

The battle to claim the world record for the largest game of that age-old playground basketball game you play when you don't have enough for two-on-two known as knockout is starting to resemble, well, a game of knockout. New Orleans might've been the record holder after the Final Four. But before that could even make it out through the press machine, the faithful at Iowa State University responded from the proverbial free throw line to reclaim the record they held a year ago.
