NOLA Fetes Demon Who Visits the Night Before St. Nick

Krampus is the stuff of nightmares. His name is derived from the German word Krampen, or to claw, and the night before Nikolaustag (Saint Nick’s Day) the beast creeps into town and beats the children into being nice. Of course, New Orleans will be feting this anti-hero with a mini-fest on December 5.

Second Line Alert: VIP Ladies & Kids Parade

St. Joseph's Day is next week, but the celebrations are starting to heat up in Central City. The VIP Ladies and Kids hit the streets today for their 13th annual second line. 2016's theme will "Like Fine Wine, Getting Better All the Time."

Halloween is a week long celebration in New Orleans. On Saturday (10.24), the New Orleans Public Library Foundation kicked off the festivities with their annual Spooktacular Fall Fest. Costumed kids and parents descended on the Algiers Regional Library for entertainment by the Uptown Music Theater, magic, games, and even some books. 

RUBARB Looks For A Piece of the Pie

The DIY spirit that powered much of downtown New Orleans through the recovery seems to be replaced with realtors worried about APR these days. Yet, some elements of the communal spirit remain. Contrary to their name, there is no rust on Rusted Up Beyond All Recognition Bikes (RUBARB.) Friday (3.27), they are hosting a fundraiser.

Family Fringe Lineup Released

The New Orleans Fringe Fest is known for their edgy fair. Nudity and bodily fluids have appeared in more than one production. However, the annual theatre festival is the epitome of a community event, and the fare is not limited to adult content. Today, the festival unveiled the 2014 lineup for Family Fringe.

Second Line Sunday: We Are One (Route)

The Saints are off today, but second lining in most definitely on. The We Are One Social Aid & Pleasure Club are rolling today at noon. The kids parade aims to raise awareness for stomach cancer and features an A-List band: the Most Wanted Brass Band.
