Today in New Orleans 3.2.13

Tonight, celebrate women in jazz, enjoy some country at House of Blues, gobble and wobble for Catch the Wall, and more. On March 2, 1988, Professor Longhair and Wynton Marsalis both won Grammy Awards at the 1987 Grammys. Now, more to do this Saturday.

Today in New Orleans 2.15.13

Today, enjoy art after hours in City Park, bounce on St. Claude, see Flogging Molly at HOB, and more. On this day in 1956, Federal Judge S. Wright ordered the desegregation of New Orleans schools. Now, click through to plan your Friday.

Today in New Orleans 2.9.13

It's Endymion Saturday! Head to the Uptown route for Iris and Tuck's, then make your way to Mid City. Following the Krewes, there's live acts performing everything from bounce to Russian Mafia music. See brass, funk, rock, and more all over New Orleans. On this day in 1718, Bienville was appointed Governor of the Louisiana Colony. Now, more to do before, after, and during the parades!

Cheeky Blakk Named krewedelusion Queen

Even though Krewe du Vieux is coming early, there will still be plenty of parade action to keep you satisfied. Immediately following the ass-drawn floats and brass bands of the satirical parade will be Episode four of krewedelusion. With people-pulled floats and even more satire, the fledgling group will take to the streets once again in hopes of proving even further that New Orleans is the center of the universe.

NOLA Sandy Relief: WWOZ Benefit for N.J. Community Radio WFMU, Brooklyn Party

by M.D. Dupuy

As strong as we are, New Orleanians couldn’t have made such strides following The Flood if it weren’t for a little help from our friends in the Northeast. Now it’s our turn to pay back the favor. This weekend, Mayor Mitch is leading a contingent of the city’s most famous chefs and musicians for a Big Easy holiday lunch in Sandy-torn Brooklyn. Elsewhere, the musicians staying behind are doing what they can from home. WWOZ and a smattering of musicians are hosting a benefit concert tomorrow at Siberia to raise money for New Jersey’s beloved WFMU Radio Station.

Today in New Orleans 11.30.12

Friday is here, and tonight you can celebrate with Johnny Sketch at Maple Leaf, art after hours at NOMA, bounce on St. Claude, or a Vox and the Hound release party at HOB. Today in 2001, Dr. John was the musical guest on Late Night with Conan O’Brien. Click through to find out how to kick off your weekend.

Today in New Orleans: 5.19.12

Today, the Bayou Boogaloo swings into full gear, Katey Red has a very red birthday party and a comedian you can see on TV makes a real-life stop in the Marigny. It's a beautiful Saturday, so we know you're ready to get out there. Here's the full rundown of some of today's prime happenings.

A Handful of JazzFest: 5 Acts to Watch on Sunday, May 6

Down the stretch they come on the 2012 edition of New Orleans Jazz Fest, but there's still plenty of adventures in music in store to close things out. Today, blue-eyed soul gets a proper update in the Blues Tent, Bounce gets a shining moment at Congo Square, and a group of locals bring the rock to the Acura Stage. Make sure to hang onto this handful, because it's the last one for this year:

Bounce Big Shots Stage Siberia SXSW Fundraiser

Like so many across the nation, SXSW organizers have found themselves trying to make it Bounce in front of the mirror, and they want to see the real thing. But before the half-dozen NOLA artists who have been invited to play Austin's annual love-in between music industry types, lovers and artists can make their way to Texas, they've got to be sure they can pay the bills. So, in true NOLA fashion, they're having a benefit.

After the Voodoo: 10.30.11

Voodooo is closing out, but the big countdown to Halloween is still ticking down. Tonight, catch a few of the bands you could've seen at the Fest, not at the Fest.  The Bingo! Show, Leo Nocentelli's Meters offshoot and a Sissy Bounce superbill round out the options.
