Governor John Bel Edwards to Deliver LSU Commencement Address


Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards is scheduled to deliver this year’s keynote address at Louisiana State University’s 292nd Commencement Ceremony on May 12. In the official announcement on Tuesday, LSU President F. King Alexander said, “Gov. Edwards has a long history of service to Louisiana, and we look forward to hearing the message he delivers to our graduates as they embark on the next stage of their lives.”

Louisiana Sues Feds Over Bathroom Directive, JBE and Landry Feud



The state of Louisiana is part of a lawsuit filed against the Obama administration, positing that a directive allowing transgender students in public schools to use the bathrooms and locker rooms that match their gender identity lacks any authority. However, the state government, itself, is embroiled in an internal war over LGBT rights.

On Wednesday (4.13), Governor John Bel Edwards made good on a campaign promise and signed an executive order rescinding Bobby Jindal’s previous religious freedom order. In addition, the current Governor issued a second order  aimed at protecting all citizens including transgendered Louisianans from discrimination.

Louisiana is once again grappling the effects of serious flooding. Despite sunny skies, waters are still rising ins one parishes and thousands of residents are struggling with water damage. 23 parishes are formally declared states of disaster and another shelter opened on Tuesday.

On Saturday, new of Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia’s death broke. Louisiana’s top elected leaders reacted to the judge’s passing with a mix of mourning and lots of the reverence that one would expect form the conservative delegation. Bobby Jindal is no longer the governor of Louisiana. On Monday (1.11), John Bel Edwards was sworn in by Chief Justice Bernette Johnson as the Pelican’s State’s latest governor in a ceremony on the steps of the state Capitol. An uplifiting speech calling for unity and change then followed.


Bel Lobs: Edwards Gets In Mud


David Vitter is almost synonymous with harsh, mud slinging attack ads. During this weekend’s LSU-Alabama fiasco, the senator got a taste of his own medicine. Democratic contender John Bel Edwards unleashed a vicious television spot attacking Vitter for his past problems with prostitution and a missed vote in Congress.
