Abita Cans Hit the Shelves
Just in time for parades down St. Charles Avenue, Abita's long-awaited entry to the craft can movement hit the stores. Today, as beer o'clock loomed, NoDef laid down $8 (+ tax) for a six-pack of Jockamo IPA at the Mid-City Rouses, confirming that yesterday was indeed the delivery date. Judging by the half-empty look of the shelf and the customer who marveled at the cans in line, we weren't the only ones who were curious.
Yes Abita Can
Being the choice local brew of a city that holds drinking on the street as a right, Abita and the can appeared destined for each other. But it seems to have taken a national craft-can movement, or perhaps the success of Big Flats and a recent NOLA Brewing announcement, for the North Shore brewery to realize the potential in making their 12 ounces a couple inches shorter. Today, Abita Brewing Company unveiled plans to put its Amber, Purple Haze and Jockamo IPA varieties in canned form, according to a news release.
