Write Bros "First Flight" Reviewed

When I first heard of this project, I wondered if it would ever happen! Getting some of the best songwriters and musicians in New Orleans to record an album together, putting their talents on tracks and their egos on the side, would be no easy feat. But Spencer Bohren, Jim McCormick, Alex McMurray and Paul Sanchez a.k.a. the Write Brothers managed to put together "First Flight" this winter. I've listened to every track, note and word and offer this as my humble opinion.

Six Beers & the Truth

Jim McCormick Talks Songs Over Suds

Having seen the spirits of New Orleans loosen even the tightest of tongues, your author was inspired to begin interviewing interesting people after a few libations. 'Six Beers and the Truth' is a series wherein the interviewee has enjoyed six beers before giving the interview. While some are emotional, some are funny and some are shocking...they are all candid and honest. Please enjoy 'Six Beers And The Truth with Jim McCormick'.

Today in New Orleans: 3.20.14

Tonight, the LPO is performing a ‘Leningrad’ Symphony, Ogden is hosting art after hours, and NOLA Fashion Week continues in the Warehouse District. On this day in 1852, Harriet Beecher Stowe published the seminal Uncle Tom’s Cabin. Now, more to do this Thursday.

New Orleans Native Wrote No. 1 Country Song

Country music star Brantley Gilbert is riding high on his song, "You Don't Know Her Like I Do," which went to number 1 on the country charts on the week of July 14. Meanwhile, the guy who wrote the song, New Orleans native Jim McCormick, has been busy checking the charts. Over at My Spilt Mik, Alex Rawls catches up with McCormick, and gets some inside industry info about how Nashville works.
