Irish House Ready for Bloomsday

To most, today, June 16, might just be another Tuesday. But for James Joyce fans around the world, June 16 marks the ever-important literary celebration, Bloomsday. In commemoration of the Irish writer’s novel Ulysses, The Irish House (1432 St. Charles Ave.) will be hosting a reading of the epic story. Writers and literary enthusiasts from across the city will come out to narrate excerpts of the famously dense, Ulysess.

Room 220: NOLA Celebrates Bloomsday with Marathon Reading of Ulysses

Press Street's Room 220

Join a bevy of local writers and James Joyce enthusiasts as New Orleans celebrates Bloomsday with a marathon reading of Ulysses beginning at 2 p.m. this Sunday, June 16, at the Irish House (1432 St. Charles Ave.).

Bloomsday at Mick's

For most of us, it's just Thursday. But for those among us that find themselves enthralled by books longer than the Bible, and partial to use of a companion book to navigate the one they're reading, it's Bloomsday. The annual holiday, conceived by literary fanboys and girls in awe of James Joyce's ultimate tome, Ulysses, is marked around the globe with reading, and, in the storied Irish tradition, plenty of drink. Locally, a celebration is set for tonight at Mick's Irish pub, located in Mid-City at the corner of Bienville and Bernadette. There will be reading, until, of course, everyone's fluthered. More details over at Toulouse Street.
