James Beard Award Winner 2017: Rebecca Wilcomb, Herbsaint

Restaurants and bars in New Orleans had another reason to let les bon temps roule this week, as some of their own won big at the James Beard Awards in Chicago this week. Known as the Oscars of the food & beverage world, the annual event nearly always features a few New Orleans faces.

Final Countdown: NOLA's James Beard Nominees

A Quick Look at the 2017 Contenders

New faces and repeat contenders alike grace the ranks of this year's James Beard Awards finalists, announced earlier this afternoon. After a strong show in the semifinals, eleven locals made it into the finals of the Oscars of the culinary world. The indulgences of Carnival season and the holidays may be too close in our collective memory for us to handle dining out to the hilt, but try to explore some of the city's top offerings before the James Beard Foundation announces the 2017 winners at a ceremony in Chicago on May 1st.

Local New Orleans restaurants, bars, and chefs once again found themselves on one of the most coveted lists in the industry today, as the 2017 James Beard finalist nominations were announced.

Beard Goggles

Be it beads or rhinestones, New Orleanians like their bling. And, on Tuesday (2.15), several local restaurants move one step closer to take home a big, shiny medal. Nine NOLA establishments made the cut as finalists for the 2016 James Beard Awards.

Beard Barons

New Orleanians know that the food here is outstanding, but sometimes a little affirmation is nice. On Wednesday (2.17), the James Beard Foundation released their list of 2015 awards semifinalists.

Tory McPhail of Commander's Palace Wins James Beard Award

Around New Orleans, the JazzFest hangover is in full effect. But a handful of Crescent City culinary craftsman went right from the busy weekend up to New York City for the annual James Beard Foundation Awards (livestream here) . As is usually the case at the "Oscars of the food world," the pickers didn't leave out New Orleans as Chef Tory McPhail of Commander's Palace brought home some hardware, and Emeril was honored for his philanthropy.
