Jack Dempsey, Legend in His Own Time, Passes

Down near the end of Poland Avenue, there's a neighborhood steak and seafood joint that seems like a relic from its own time. Jack Dempsey's is legendary around the Bywater, and it turns out its not named for the legendary heavyweight champion. According to the T-P, the restaurant's namesake is a longtime local crime reporter who was the sort of guy that would pretend he was a doctor to get stories and sing Huey Long's theme song at parties. He was never called the champ, but he signed all of his stories "ALIHOT" - A legend in his own time. Da Paper has the obit for Dempsey, who died today at age 92.
