Int'l Jazz Day: Concert Streams Live from Turkey, Kidd Jordan Honored in NOLA (VIDEO)New Orleans played host to the inaugural International Jazz Day concert in 2012. The all-star lineup won't be here for the event's second year, but we're sending a few top players around the world to represent the spot where it all began. Slated for 4-30, International Jazz Day serves as a helpful reminder of talent all over the globe, including NOLA’s Branford Marsalis and Terence Blanchard. Today at 1pm, they’re live streaming the festival all the way from Istanbul, Turkey. A little closer to home, Café Istanbul in the Marigny is paying homage to another living legend. Herbie Hancock, New Orleans Musicians Mark International Jazz DayTREME -- New Orleans' fragrant spring flowers mixed with the distinctive scent of All Night Drinking this morning in Armstrong Park, as jazz came home to Congo Square for International Jazz Day. The 7 a.m. concert not only featured the rare sight of Herbie Hancock playing for free, but also New Orleans musicians getting up early. Herbie Hancock Celebrates International Jazz Day Monday at Sunrise in Armstrong ParkGet those tired JazzFest legs to bed early tonight, or bring your sunglasses if you're staying out all night. Come sunrise, jazz legend Herbie Hancock will unleash a concert that doubles as a coda to the first Fest weekend to the birthplace of the music form. At 7 a.m. in Congo Square, Hancock will headline a mostly local bill for a concert to celebrate International Jazz Day. Herbie Hancock Bringing International Jazz Day to Congo SquareIn addition to Herbie Hancock's headlining turn in (what we can only assume will be) the Jazz Tent at the Fair Grounds, the legendary keys man will also be taking a trip down to the spot where Jazz (and Jazz Fest, for that matter) were born. As part of International Jazz Day, Hancock will host a Congo Square concert at sunrise on April 30. |
