New Orleans Reaches 400th Shooting Victim This Year

New Orleans saw a short respite from gun-related violence earlier this month, but unfortunately the city’s crime problem rages on. Jeff Asher, local crime analyst and the man behind NOLA Crime News, noted that two shootings yesterday mark New Orleans’ 400th gun-related victim in 2017 — the fastest the city has reached this bleak milestone in the past seven years. 


NOPD Names Suspect in French Quarter Homicide

The New Orleans Police Department are asking for the public's assistance in locating a suspect of a homicide that occurred in the French Quarter last week. 

Will Smith's Killer Sentenced to 25 Years in Prison

Former Crescent City Kings player Cardell Hayes was convicted Thursday in the slaying of beloved Saints captain Will Smith. Hayes silently accepted the sentence of 25 years in prison on charges of manslaughter and attempted manslaughter in the incident that left Smith dead and Smith’s wife Racquel suffering from multiple gun shot wounds. The sentencing comes just days after the one year anniversary of Smith’s death.

The New Orleans Police Department saw eight crimes hit the city on Sunday (4.16) and five crimes on Monday (4.17). According to the Major Offense Log (MOL), the NOPD responded to two rapes, two robberies, two shootings, a stabbing an unclassified death on Sunday. On Monday, the MOL recorded a simple carjacking, aggravated burglary, a shooting, a homicide, and an unclassified death. 

UPDATED: NOLA Man Wanted for Infant Murder in Orleans Parish

The NOPD announced a new development in the investigation surrounding the death of an infant on the 4700 block of Lafaye Street this week. Third District detectives were called to the home of Jeffery Edward Coleman on Thursday (3.23), after a 17-day-old infant boy was found unresponsive. Coleman told detectives at the time that the child fell from a sofa in the home, but the NOPD now believes that he inflicted “severe bodily harm,” according to police. 

New Orleans Schools On Lockdown Following Gentilly Shooting

The NOPD is investigating a shooting that occurred early Thursday afternoon (3.23) on the 5000 block of Louisa Street. Initial reports on scene show a male victim of homicide, at around 1:48PM. 

Overnight Crime Report: Three Aggravated Batteries, Two Robberies, Attempted Theft, Homicide

On Wednesday (3.1), the New Orleans Police Department (NOPD) responded to three cases of aggravated battery (two by cutting, one by shooting), one armed robbery, one attempted armed robbery, a simple robbery, and one homicide according to the Major Offense Log (MOL). 

Overnight Crime Report: Two Robberies, One Homicide, Unclassified Death, Rape, Shooting

The New Orleans Police Department (NOPD) only had to respond to six incidents in the last 24 hours of Lundi Gras leading into Fat Tuesday’s festivities, according to the Major Offense Log (MOL). The MOL contained two incidents of theft, one shooting, one one homicide, one sexual assault, and one unclassified death.

Overnight Crime Report: Homicide, Stickup, Domestic Violence

The New Orleans Police Department only responded to three crimes on Wednesday (11.16), but the incidents were violent. The Major Offense Log (MOL) reports one homicide, a vicious stickup, and a case of domestic violence.

Violent crime shows no sign of abatement. The New Orleans Police Department (NOPD) responded to a double homicide, three rape cases, three muggings, a bloody home invasion, and domestic violence according to the Major Offense Log (MOL).
