Cop Catches Man Firing AK-47


Even a near miss is grounds for an arrest when a cop is around. Kendell Gibson allegedly learned this lesson the hard way on Wednesday in Hollygrove. According to police, Gibson was allegedly firing an AK-47 from a porch in the 3700 block of Monroe St. Around the same time, Officer John Castelin happened to be cruising by.


Drug Store Derelicts: NOPD Seeks Rite Aid Robber, CVS Liquor Lifter (VIDEO)

Even criminals need to make drug store runs. Over the weekend, one such pharmacy fugitive learned that if you bring a gun, you get to skip the long lines. The New Orleans Police Department is searching for the man involved in the Saturday morning armed robbery at a Garden District Rite Aid. A second suspect who likes to-go drinks for free at a Hollygrove CVS also made the cop's list.


3 Suspects, Car Wanted in Sat. Afternoon Hollygrove Shooting


Police released photos (pictured) of three people wanted in connection with a Hollygrove shooting that happened in broad daylight on Saturday. Just after 12:30 p.m., a 59-year-old man was visiting a friend's house. Someone opened fire, and he was shot above the right eye. A 53-year-old woman who was on the porch with her dog picked up the canine and tried to head inside upon the gunfire, but was shot in the right arm.


Crescent City Crime Update: 6 Wounded in 5 Shootings, Pair of Armed Rip-Offs Uptown


New Orleans police responded to five shootings across the city on Monday night. No one died in the four-hour spate of violence, which occurred in five different neighborhoods. Uptown, police also responded to a midday carjacking which happened while a woman was washing her car on Willow Street in Carrollton, and an Uptown home invasion in which a woman was forced into her home at gunpoint so a man could steal her TV. Hollygrove Market Extends Hours

Locally grown produce will be available five days a week at the Hollygrove Market. In honor of their fourth anniversary, the Olive Street retail branch (8301 Olive St.) of the Market and Farm is extending the days and hours during which they are open. Rather than just Tuesday, Saturday, and Sunday, now shoppers will have access to fresh, locally grown produce on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, as well as Saturday and Sunday. The changes take effect on Nov. 3.

Man Bolts Traffic Stop, Leaves Baby and Drugs Behind

The NOPD is on a hunt for an accused drug dealer who left his nine-month old son in his car last night while fleeing police. The suspect, identified as 31-year-old Derrick Robert Kirton, had $150,000 worth of heroin in his car at the time he was pulled over and fled the scene, according New Orleans police.

New Orleans Sees 4 Murders in 36 Hours

Four men were murdered in New Orleans in a 36-hour period between Saturday night and Monday morning. Shortly before midnight on Saturday, June 9, a 21-year-old man was gunned down on his stoop in Central City. He passed away the next morning in the hospital. Shortly before 1:00pm on Sunday, June 10, a 27-year-old man was gunned down while leaving his apartment in the Palmetto Street Apartments in Hollygrove. He died on the staircase. Shortly before 6:00pm yesterday, a 24-year-old man was fatally shot and a 19-year-old female was shot in the leg in Gert Town.
