Reward Increased for Info on HANO Officer's Murder

On May 24, 2015, Housing Authority of New Orleans (HANO) Officer James Bennett, Jr. was fatally shot while patrolling a construction site in Central City. Police still have few leads in the investigation. However, the reward linked to the homicide was increased 25,000 dollars today in the hopes of kickstarting the case.

Even as the City works to build something new at the Guste Homes uptown, elements of the past remain. On Sunday (5.24) morning, a Housing Authority of New Orleans (HANO) police officer was fatally shot while patrolling the construction site. 

Inside the Chamber: Council Highlights

City Council commenced the regular meeting yesterday (12.11) with the 21st annual Military Day presentation. Various local subdivisions of the Military filled the chambers with men and women in uniform as a horn band played their anthems. But, that wasn’t the only noise being made at City Hall Thursday. 

NOPD Cops Arrested for Double-Dipping Details, Theft

FBI agents and NOPD officers arrested two fellow law enforcement agents on Wednesday. Officers Rafael Dobard and Quincy Jones were both charged with submitting timesheets that double-dipped on their NOPD and detail pay. The officers are also suspected of stealing money that was supposed to be used for secret investigations, the FBI said.

Demo Begins on Iberville Projects (PHOTOS)

The long anticipated redevelopment of the Iberville projects is underway, with a  few units already reduced to piles of bricks. Work began yesterday at the historic site, which used to house Storyville, New Orleans' red light district. 

City Planning Green Lights LGD Coffee Shop

Today’s City Planning Commission meeting visited Magazine Street, with parking at a new furniture store and a coffee shop up for the body's consideration. An Irish Channel furniture store wanted to add a few thousand feet of floor space without even a few extra parking spots, and residents near the Magazine Street business spoke out against more cars on their blocks. However, residents near Laurel and Jackson were happy to welcome a new coffee shop to their quiet neighborhood.

Feds: Duo Bilked 600K in HANO Hustle

The feds charged a pair of ex-public workers with embezzling hundreds of thousands of dollars from the agency that oversees public housing in New Orleans. The U.S. Department of Justice moved this week to charge two former Housing Authority of New Orleans employees with stealing $661,904.11 from the department.
