A Little Help From Our Friends: Beatles Piano Fetches 99K for Habitat

Ebony and ivory are capable of far more than perfect harmony. With a little help from the remaining Beatles, the East St. Tammany Habitat for Humanity’s Veterans Build Program raised $98,888 by auctioning off a hand painted piano signed by Sir Paul and Ringo.

Krewe of Freret Set for 2014 Mardi Gras Ride

by Leslie Gamboni

Placed on the back burner by city officials during Super bowl and carnival celebrations, the Krewe of Freret’s hopes to roll were forced to take a rain check. The Uptown krewe was forced to replace a parade with a party in 2013, but NOPD has given them the go ahead to roll Saturday, February 22, 2014.

Drywalled In Purgatory

Only a week after Anderson Cooper and Harry Connick Jr. were extolling their own (mostly deserved) saintly virtues at the Musicians' Village in Gentilly, ProPublica reports that Habitat for Humainty will have to gut at least 75 homes -- many of which are in 'da Village -- because the homes were built with Chinese drywall. Is there anything that can't get bung up the rebuilding of this city? In any case, ProPublica won a Pulitzer so you know what's coming: A must-read.
