What Happened to GiveNOLA?

Tuesday (5.03) was an opportunity for New Orleanians to give to their favorite charities during the annual GiveNOLA Day. However, massive server issues at tech partner, Kimbia, meant that for almost ten hours, NOLA givers were unable to access the giving portal. One day later, there is plenty to explain.

FEMA Grants City $9 Mil for Road Repair

Nine years after Katrina, many of the City's roads still are damaged, but some help is on the way. A 9 million dollar award has been granted to the city of New Orleans for road repairs in the Desire and Gentilly Terrace corridors. Streets damaged during Hurricane Katrina will receive long overdue treatment, funded by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). Senator Mary Landrieu, Chair of Homeland Security Appropriations Subcommittee U.S. Representative Cedric Richmond and Mayor Mitch Landrieu announced the funds today (10.07).

Feds Grant NOPD $1.8 Mil.

Senator Landrieu fares pretty well with New Orleans voters. However, her numbers should get even better after today. Landrieu along with Representative Cedric Richmond and her brother, Mayor Mitch announced a $1,875,000 grant for the NOPD from the feds. According to her office, the money will be used for jobs on the force, community policing programs, and anti-violent crime initiatives.
